KCK IN REGION VI TOURNAMENT
The Seward County Community College baseball team was eliminated from the Region VI Tournament losing 9-7 to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Monday evening at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita. The Saints scored six runs in the second inning, but were held to one run the rest of the game as KCK left-handed pitcher Tyler Link pitched the final 7 2/3 innings in relief for the victory. The No. 10 nationally-ranked Saints finish their season with a 42-19 overall record while KCK (34-18) advances to play Cowley College in the loser’s bracket final at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Freshman Austin Terhune threw 8 2/3 innings to guide the Seward County Community College baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Fort Scott Community College in an elimination game Monday morning at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita. Terhune struck out 11 batters while eliminating the Greyhounds from the Region VI Tournament. The Saints (42-18) advance to play the winner of Hutchinson/Kansas City Kansas in a 7 p.m. loser’s bracket game tonight. Fort Scott ends its season with a 38-21 overall record. COMPLETE STORY...

SIGNS WITH BRISBANE BULLETS IN NBL
Former Seward County Community College men’s basketball player Adam Tanner has signed a two-year professional contract with the Brisbane Bullets of the National Basketball League in Australia. Tanner, a former Jayhawk West All-Conference selection in 2005-06, completed his collegiate career this season with the Denver University Pioneers, who compete in the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. Tanner, a 6-foot-9 forward, was a two-year starter for the Saints helping lead SCCC to a 45-18 overall record from 2004-2006. Tanner becomes the 18th Seward County men’s basketball player to play professional basketball. COMPLETE STORY...

JOHNSON COUNTY UPENDS
SAINTS IN REGION VI QUARTERFINAL
The Seward County Community College baseball team fell into the loser’s bracket in the NJCAA Region VI Tournament after suffering a 6-3 loss against Johnson County Community College (39-15) Sunday evening at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita. Despite a 5-for-5 hitting effort from sophomore third baseman Austin Roff, the Saints had only two base runners reach scoring position in the final five innings. The Cavaliers, who have won 14 of their last 15 games, advance to the winner’s bracket final on Monday evening. The No. 10 nationally-ranked Saints (41-18) will play in an elimination game Monday morning at 10 a.m. against Fort Scott Community College (38-20), who defeated Allen County Community College 6-5 on Monday afternoon. SEWARD COUNTY FINISHES
16TH AT NJCAA TOURNAMENT
The Seward County Community College women’s tennis team finished in 16th place at the NJCAA Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. Sophomore Erica Herrera and freshman Valerie Stevens placed in the round of eight, and freshman Alyssa Larson won the consolation bracket to highlight the top performances for the Lady Saints at the national tournament. It is the third straight year that SCCC has finished in the Top 20 at nationals, after finishing 14th in 2007 and in 10th in 2006. Hillsborough Community College won the NJCAA national championship with 45 points, followed by Tyler Junior College (44 points), Lee College (43 points), Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (42 points) and Collin County Community College (39.5 points) to round out the top five. PLAYERS NAMED ALL-REGION VI
The NJCAA Division I All-Region VI softball team selections were recently announced, and the Seward County Community College Lady Saints were well represented with six players receiving recognition. Jennifer Collins (First Base), Alicia Gonzales (Outfield), Melissa St. Clair (Catcher) and Courtney Auger (Pitcher) were all named to the first team while Lindsay Garchinski (Third Base) and Jamie Gilbert (Outfield) were selected to the second team. The Lady Saints were the only team with two First Team selections. Seward County has now had 49 All-Region VI picks in the program’s 10-year history. COMPLETE STORY...

ANNOUNCES 2008 SIGNING CLASS
Seward County Community College volleyball coach Bert Luallen has announced the signing of five incoming student-athletes for the 2008-2009 school year. The five high school seniors that inked official NJCAA National Letters of Intent with the Lady Saints volleyball program are Heather Carter (Mesquite, Texas), Lindsey Miller (Dumas, Texas), LaKendra Sanders (Lewisville, Texas), Amanda Savage (Wichita, Kan.) and Taryn Westerman (Liberal, Kan.). Seward County finished the 2007 season with a 30-15 overall record, marking the 10th most wins in single-season SCCC history.
