SAINTS DESTROY GRIZZLIES WITH ONLY NINE AVAILABLE PLAYERS
The Saints defeated Butler College 81-65, with only nine players available for action Wednesday night. Saints sophomore guard, Keoni Watson, the teams leading scorer (17.6 points per game), freshman forward Preston Sims (5.2 ppg, 4 rebounds per game) and sophomore reserve forward Calvin Gabel were all unavailable Wednesday as Watson and Sims were home sick with the flu and Gabel is still out, due to a severely sprained ankle.

The Saints relied on several players to step-up their games Wednesday night. Saints sophomore Steven Vanarsdale and freshman point guard Jerrell Green scored 12 points each, freshman guard Brandon Cornwell had seven points, three rebounds and three assists, freshman Adam Tanner scored 11 points and sophomore Brian McCarther, who was back in the Saints line-up after missing last Saturday’s game, had a double/double with 11 points and a team high 12 rebounds.

Saints starting point guard Kyle Smith led all Saints in scoring with 17. Smith also grabbed eight rebounds. The 5’7” point guard is now averaging 3.3 rebounds per contest. Smith also dialed up three long range trey’s against Butler. He is now shooting 36-for-86 (.419) from three-point range on the season. Smith is tied for third in the Jayhawk Conference in three-point shooting percentage.

The Saints shot 54 percent from the field and held Butler to 32 percent shooting. The Saints played unbelievable defense in the first half holding Butler to only 33 points on 9-of-38 (.237) shooting from the field.

The Saints will play this Sunday, February 13, at Colby Community College. The Saints defeated Colby 64-62, on a McCarther last second shot in the Green House, January 15. Colby is currently 7th place in the Jayhawk West with a 3-5 conference record.
