SAINTS COMEBACK IN SECOND HALF NOT ENOUGH AT COLBY
Despite being down 24 points in the second half, the Seward County Saints were defeated by the Colby Trojans 85-80, in a Jayhawk West Conference, Sunday match-up in Colby, Kansas.

The Saints (18-7, 7-4 in the Jayhawk West) cut Colby’

s lead to three-points with 1:45 remaining. Saints sophomore point guard Kyle Smith, went up for a defensive rebound and behind him jumped a Colby player who grabbed the ball and went up for the tip in. The referee called a foul on Smith and the Trojans capitalized on the three-point play and the five point victory over the Saints.

Joe Bellinger
The Saints experimented with a different starting line-up and Head Coach Dave Brown saw impressive numbers from one of his new starting small forwards. Sophomore Joe Bellinger made the most of his opportunities last night as he cracked the starting line-up for the fifth time this season, scoring a team high 17 points (7-for-11 from the field) and made three shots from three-point land. Bellinger has averaged 7.1 points per game in his last six games. He is averaging 3.3 ppg. and has made 16 three-pointers (.444%) on the season.

Sophomore Keoni Watson scored 16 points and was 8-of-12 from the free-throw line for the Saints. After scoring 16 against the Trojans, Watson is nearing a Saints Basketball milestone. Watson is currently 9th place in Saints history in career scoring with 998 points. With two more points, Watson will join the exclusive 1,000 point scoring club and with four points Watson will jump into 8th place all-time in scoring. Currently in 8th place with 1,001 career points is former Saints star Shelby Walton. Walton was coached by Coach Brown when he was an assistant for Seward County in 1993-1995. Watson also moved into a tie for sixth place on the Saints all-time career 3-Point list. Watson tied Thaydeus Holden (2000-2001) for sixth place all-time with 94 three-point baskets in a career.

The Saints are back at home Wednesday, February 15, hosting Pratt Community College at 8:00 p.m. in the Green House. The Saints escaped with a 95-89, win at Pratt back on January 12. In their first meeting Kyle Smith had his break out performance scoring 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point land.
