SAINTS GET REVENGE AGAINST BARTON COUNTY
After being defeated by 17 points at Great Bend earlier this season, the Seward County Saints got revenge against Barton County Saturday night at the Green House 69-63. It was also sophomore recognition night at the Green House and the Saints have seven players who played their final regular season game at home against Barton County.
The Saints relied on a big time production from Adam Tanner (22 points and four rebounds), Keoni Watson (17 points and four assists) and Kyle Smith (11 points). The second place Saints also shot well from the free throw line knocking down 14-of-16 shots from the line (.880 %).
Seward County finished the regular season ranked first in the 19 school Jayhawk Conference in Field Goal Percentage Offense (.484 %) and 3-Point Field Goal Percentage Defense (.264 %). Additionally, the Saints finished second in scoring offense (79.9 ppg.).
Sophomore Keoni Watson scored 17 points moving him once again up in the All-Time Seward County Career Points list. Watson now sits in 5th place passing Jason Robinson (1,081 points 1998-2000) and Tony Brown (1,103 points 1997-1999). Watson currently has 1,107 points and is 120 points behind former Seward County All-American Jamal Brown for fourth place (1,227 points).
With the regular season now complete the Jayhawk West No. 2 seed Seward County will host Jayhawk East seven seed Highland Community College (8-22, 6-12 in the Jayhawk East), Wednesday, for the first round of the Region VI men's basketball tournament. Tip-off will be at 8:00 p.m. at the Green House.
All reserved seats will be honored until halftime of the women's game. After halftime any empty reserved seats will be open for the public. The buyout sponsors for Wednesday night's playoff game will be Holiday Inn Express and Wheatridge Park Care Center. You can pick up free tickets at both sponsors, both Pizza Hut locations, First National Bank and Sun Flower Bank. Tickets at the door will be $5 Adults, $3 senior citizens, $3 Students (18 & under) and children 6 and under are Free.
The winner of Wednesday's game will go on to the second round of the Region VI tournament playing the winner of the Colby/Neosho County game. The second round game will be March 13 at 5:00 p.m. at the Bi-Centennial Center, in Salina, Kansas. Ticket prices are $10.00 per day, children 5 and under get in free.
