SAINTS DEFEAT BUTLER IN A CONVINCING WIN 84-72
After not competing in almost a month the Seward County Saints proved last Saturday that the momentum they started back in December of 2004 is continuing in January of 2005. The Saints (12-3, 1-0) defeated Butler Community College (11-4, 0-1) 84-72 in both teams first Jayhawk West Conference game this season.

The Saints defeated a Butler team that looked very athletic, by playing Seward County basketball, which is playing team basketball. Six Saints scored in double figures. In both the first and second half the Saints scored 42 points and in each half shot .500 from the field.

In a game the Saints controlled from the start, freshman Raynard Sawyer locked in from outside with 4-of-8 from three-point land. The freshman from Cleveland, Ohio, scored a team high 16 points and along with teammate Keoni Watson led the team with four assists.

The Saints also saw point production from freshman point guard Jerrell Green. Green scored a season high 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 5-for-8 from the free throw line. Green had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Watson, the team’s leading scorer this season, averaging 18.4 points per game, scored 12 points and led the team with five defensive rebounds and four assists.

Freshman forward Preston Sims scored 10 points in win against Butler
Big man Adam Tanner scored 11 points and had two steals, sophomore Brian McCarther had 10 points and freshman Preston Sims, from Akron, Ohio, equaled his season high with 10 points as well.

The Saints will ride their seven game winning streak into Dodge City Community College tonight to face the Conquistadors (8-5, 0-0 in the Jayhawk West), who have yet to play a conference opponent. The Saints and Conqs will tip it off tonight at 8:00 P.M.
