SAINTS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS WINNING TWO GAMES IN TEXAS
After a rough start to the West Texas Shootout, the Saints came back strong Friday and Saturday beating Murray State (Okla.) 69-55 on Friday and defeating Yavapai 57-52 on Saturday. The Saints (7-3, 0-0 in the Jayhawk West) lost their opening game to Lee College 71-67 on Thanksgiving Day.

The Saints played all weekend with plenty on their minds as they lost their teammate Robert Townsend to a car accident that claimed his life on Thursday. Seward players found out about Townsend’s death at 4:30 before their 6:00 p.m. game Thursday evening.

On Saturday the Saints were led by sophomore guard Keoni Watson who poured in 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Freshman shooting guard Raynard Sawyer scored 13 points for the Saints in their 14 point victory over Murray State. The Saints continued playing well in the tournament’s finale on Sunday, as they had big production from Watson as he scored a team high 19 points. Sawyer added 12 points and sophomore forward Brian McCarther scored ten points for the Saints.

In the Saints loss to Lee College, Watson again led all Saints in scoring with a SCCC season high 29 points. Watson was 12-for-18 shooting, 2-for-6 from three-point land, dished out two assists and had three steals. Sawyer played all 40 minutes of the game and had 15 points.

Watson, who is the teams leading scorer this season averaging 17.3 points per game was also named to the West Texas Shootout All-Tournament Team.

The Saints will travel next weekend to Coffeyville, for the Jayhawk Shootout. The Saints will play Saturday against Fort Scott at 9:00 a.m. and on Sunday against Johnson County at 1:00 p.m. The Saints will look to defeated Fort Scott for the second time this season as they took the first meeting 70-57 on November 5, at the Green House.
