SAINTS LOSE DESPITE FOUR PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES
The Seward County Saints went down to the wire with the No. 1 ranked team in the Jayhawk West Conference Sunday evening. The Saints (15-5, 4-2 in the Jayhawk West) who led by two points at halftime, were trailing the Broncbusters by 16 points mid-way through the second half when a late comeback was mounted. The Saints got back into the game cutting the lead to two points with less than a minute remaining. With steady free-throw shooting and a huge performance from B.J. Walker the Jayhawk West leading Broncbusters (13-6, 5-0) defeated Seward County 83-78.

Seward County had many players contribute in Sunday’s loss. Four Saints scored in double figures and five players had four or more rebounds. Sunday’s loss also came without freshman Jerrell Green, who was issued a one game suspension due to his ejection against Dodge City back on January 10, in Dodge City.

Raynard Sawyer
The Saints leading scorer against Garden City was freshman Raynard Sawyer who poured in 19 points on 7-of-17 from the field and 3-for-9 from three-point land.

Sophomore Keoni Watson joined Sawyer in double figures scoring 16 points. Watson added a team high five steals and three assists. Freshman Davone Allen had a break out game for the Saints in his best performance this season, scoring 11 points and completing the double/double with 10 rebounds. Allen was 5-of-6 from the field in 18 minutes of play. The fourth Saint in double figures was Adam Tanner. Tanner scored 13 points, grabbed seven boards and was 4-for-5 from the free throw line.

B.J. Walker, the sensational sophomore was a human highlight reel yesterday evening for Garden City. The 6’9” Cincinnati, Ohio native, who transferred to Garden City from the University of Buffalo (NCAA D-I), scored a game high 23 points and cleaned the glass for 15 rebounds against the Saints. The Jayhawk West leading scorer Torre Johnson wasn’t left out of the action scoring 18 points, which is two below his scoring average on the season (20.6 ppg.).

The loss drops Seward County to third place in the Jayhawk West Conference below Pratt who is 5-1 in the West. The Saints will be back at home Wednesday, as they take on Hutchinson (12-5, 2-3 in the Jayhawk West) at 8:00 p.m. in the Green House. Hutchinson is currently fifth in the conference and has wins over Colby (92-68) and Barton County (75-69).
