SCCC SAINT DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT THURSDAY
SCCC Saint sophomore Robert Townsend, 21, from Topeka, died in a vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon in Pratt County.

Townsend was traveling eastbound on Highway 54 heading home to Topeka when he got in a head on collision with a
nother vehicle who’s driver was 28- year old Nicole Quimby from Buffalo, Okla. The collision claimed the life of Townsend and Quimby at the site of the accident.
Townsend was a starting guard on the Seward County men’s basketball team. This was Townsend’s second year with the Saints and was redshirted last season.
In high school, Townsend was a Capital City First Team All-City selection, First Team All-Centennial pick, City and League Co-Player of the Year, 5A First Team All-State choice and a 5A KABC First Team All-State selection.
Townsend was named to the Topeka Invitational All-Tournament team and to the Leavenworth All-Tournament team. He also competed in the KABC All-Star game his senior year.
Townsend was also a member of Coffeyville’s Region 6 championship team two years ago before he transferred to Seward.
At SCCC this season, Townsend had played in all seven games averaging 9.4 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. He shot 50 percent from the field, had 21 assists and 14 steals.
Saints head coach Dave Brown and assistant coach Hank Harris are with the team in Odessa, Texas at a tournament. After hearing the news, the Saints took a heavy hearted 71-67 loss to Lee College, on Thursday which brings them to 5-3 on the season. The Saints continue playing in Odessa Saturday and Saturday.
