SEWARD COUNTY SAINTS AT. BUTLER C.C. GRIZZLIES
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team will travel to El Dorado on Saturday, Jan. 7, taking on the Butler Community College Grizzlies at 8:00 p.m. at the Power Plant Arena.

Seward County (15-0, 1-0) travels to El Dorado to take on Butler C.C. after the Saints won their Conference opener 77-71, over Dodge City on Wednesday. Butler lost their opener on the road at Cloud County, 81-61. Saints Head Coach, Dave Brown , will be trying to tie the SCCC men’s basketball record for most wins all-time for a head coach with 224, against Butler . Brown (223-87 overall record) has guided the Saints to a 15-0 overall record and a No. 3 NJCAA ranking this season.

The Saints struggled offensively on Wednesday (Jan. 4) scoring just 21 points in the first-half, but finished with strong with 56 points in the second-half with an impressive shooting performance from freshman, Michael Tyree (20 points), and sophomore point guard, Jerrell Green (20 points, six assists). The Saints were solid once again on the glass with Adam Tanner (nine rebounds), Keith Spencer (11 rebounds) and Theron Wilson (nine rebounds) limiting Dodge City ’s second chance opportunities.

Butler C.C. (11-4, 0-1) is led by NJCAA Pre-Season First Team All-American, Corey Bailey (6’5”), who is averaging 17.8 ppg. and 6.4 rpg. this season. Butler will depend on the three-point shot with Ladarious Weaver (28 3-pt. field goals) averaging 11.5 ppg. and Ed Jones (19 3-pt. field goals) averaging 8.8 ppg.

Butler ’s first year Head Coach, Randy Smithson, is no stranger to Butler as he spent 11 years (1985-1996) building the Grizzly basketball program and taking Butler to four NJCAA National Tournaments with an overall record of 300-80 (.789 %) while coaching at Butler in his first tenure. Smithson then spent four seasons coaching at Wichita State University before returning back to the Region VI coaching at Cowley County for four seasons.
