SEWARD COUNTY SAINTS FALL AT HOME TO BUTLER, 78-70
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team dropped a Jayhawk West Conference game at home Wednesday night to Butler Community College, 78-70 at the Green House in Liberal. The Saints are currently in last-place with a 3-7 Jayhawk West Conference record. The win moves
Butler
into a tie with Garden City for fourth-place in the West Conference with a 5-5 conference mark.
The Saints (17-7 overall) free-throw shooting once again hurt them as they shot just 52 percent from the free throw line on their home court. The Saints finished the game with an 8-for-19 free-throw performance (42 %) in the second-half.
Butler
entered Wednesday night’s game as the 17th ranked free-throw shooting team in the Region VI, but were able to focus on the road making 75 percent of their shots from the charity stripe (18-for-24).

had a strong performance from power forward, Keith Spencer, who scored 12 points with nine rebounds. Spencer did however sit on the bench during important minutes of the second-half due to foul trouble.
Saints leading scorer, Adam Tanner, led SCCC in scoring with 15 points (7-for-10 field goals).

’s spark-plug during the conference season has been freshman, Michael Tyree. After starting the contest, Tyree played limited minutes until midway through the second-half. The

, native finished the game with 11 points (2-for-7 three-point field goals) in only 14 minutes of action.
Saints reserve guard,
Hank Harris
, scored 10 points with a game-high five steals in 15 minutes of action.
Butler C.C. (16-8 overall) was led by NJCAA pre-season First Team All-American, Corey Bailey, who recorded a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. Bailey shot 10-for-18 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line to lead the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies were also paced by Bailey’s frontcourt teammate, Ed Jones, who tallied 17 points and a team-high four steals.
Saturday, Feb. 11 is homecoming at SCCC, and the Saints will host
Colby
Community College
(11-12, 4-6) for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off at the Green House. Pizza Hut is the buy-out sponsor, and will have FREE tickets available throughout the week at all local Pizza Hut locations.
