SCCC SAINTS WIN FIRST CONFERENCE ROAD GAME THIS SEASON
For the first time this season the Seward County Community College men’s basketball team won a Jayhawk West Conference game on the road. The Saints defeated Pratt Community College 94-73, in Pratt, Wednesday night. The Saints are now 1-5 in conference competition on the road this season. Seward County improves to 19-7 overall (5-7 Jayhawk West) and Pratt falls to 17-9 overall (6-6 Jayhawk West).

Entering Wednesday’s game, the Saints had been outscored playing on the road this season by 10 points per game. Last night, the Saints shot 54 percent (33-for-61) from the floor and out-rebounded Pratt, 46-32, in the lopsided victory.

Freshman, Theron Wilson led the Saints with 22 points (9-for-14 shooting) and also chipped in six assists and two steals, despite a game-high four turnovers.

Saints post players, Keith Spencer and Adam Tanner also turned in big performances Wednesday night. Spencer scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Tanner recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Saints also won the battle at the free-throw line shooting 75 percent (24-for-32), while Pratt limited themselves to 54 percent (13-for-24) shooting from the charity stripe.

The Beavers did shoot well from three-point range hitting 44 percent (8-for-18) of their long range shots.

Pratt was led by Drew Kanngiesser (18 points, six rebounds), Jarvis Nichols (14 points, eight assists), Marvin Lee (13 points) and Bryce Simon (10 points).

Seward County will play at Garden City Community College this Saturday, Feb. 18, against the Broncbusters (16-9, 5-7) who were defeated Wednesday night at Hutchinson, 73-65. The Saints and Broncbusters are currently tied for sixth place in the Jayhawk West Conference with a 5-7 conference mark.

Tip-off for Saturday will be at 8:00 p.m. at the Perryman Center in Garden City.
