SAINTS BASKETBALL RANKED PRE-SEASON NO. 25 IN NJCAA POLL
The Seward County Community College Saints basketball has been ranked pre-season in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Top 30 poll and in the Jayhawk West Conference pre-season poll. The Saints received a No. 25 national pre-season ranking from the NJCAA and have been picked to finish second in the Jayhawk West Conference. The Saints open their season on Nov. 3, against Sterling J.V. at
8:00 p.m.
in the Green House.
In 2004-2005, the Saints finished 23-9 overall and had the best winning percentage in the Jayhawk West Conference (.719 %). Saints head coach, Dave Brown, and assistant coach, Hank Harris, will welcome back only three players from a year ago including, starting center Adam Tanner (11.3 ppg., 5.9 rpg.), Jerrell Green (5.1 ppg., 2.4 rpg., 1.9 apg.) and Brandon Cornwell (2.1 ppg., 1.4 rpg.).
The Saints had one of the top junior college recruiting classes bringing in one transfer, nine freshmen and one player who red-shirted last season.
Sophomore post player, Keith Spencer (6’8”), transfers to Seward County C.C. from
Humboldt
State
University
(NCAA D-II) where he played his freshman season. In high school, Spencer averaged 19.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots per game. The Saints have brought in four players from
Kansas
high school’s who have combined won six high school state championships. A.J. Allen (5’10”) and Carlin Whitten (6’2”) from
Wichita
East
High School
won a pair of 6A State Championships in 2002 and 2005. Theron Wilson (6’5”) and Hank Harris (5’11”) won a 5A State Championship in 2004 at

The Saints welcome guard, Michael Tyree (5’11”) from
Somerset

New Jersey
, where as a senior Tyree led the state of
New Jersey
and set a new high school record for three-point field goals made in one season (73). The Saints received a pair of freshmen from East St. Louis, Illinois, as big men Josh Ball (6’8”) and Raymond Woods (6’5”) both averaged double-doubles in points and rebounds in high school.
The Saints have added Martrelle Patterson (5’11”), from Liberal to their roster this season. Patterson is the first player from Liberal to play for the Saints since current San Antonio Spurs player Melvin Sanders played for the Saints in 1999-2000. The Saints also have freshman, Chris Tyler (6’4”), from Wichita Southeast H.S. Tyler averaged 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game as a senior. The Saints only red-shirt player returning this year is freshman Mark Hall (6’8”). Hall transferred to

last spring from

, where he attended for only a semester. Hall averaged 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game as a senior in high school.
