ADAM TANNER AND AMANDA McCUE LEAD SCCC BASKETBALL TEAMS
SAINTS BASKETBALL PREVIEW: DAY 2
Heading into their sophomore seasons at
Seward
County
Community College
, Adam Tanner and Amanda McCue are being looked at by teammates and coaches to provide leadership and quality play that will help lead both the Saints and Lady Saints deep into the post season.
Tanner is in his third year at Seward County after coming to not only Seward County in 2003-2004, but also to the United States. Tanner, a Melbourne,
Australia
native, red-shirted his first season as the Saints won only nine games all season long. With Tanner in the line-up last season as a major contributor, the Saints relied on him all season long grabbing key rebounds and scoring crucial points to help the Saints (23-9) win seven games by six points or fewer, including five games in conference play.
Tanner, a 6’8” 230 pound post player, was the Saints leading rebounder (5.9 rpg.) and second leading scorer (11.3 ppg.) last season. With plans to possibly move on to an NCAA D-I school after last year, Tanner had already graduated from SCCC after three semesters while being named to the spring 2005 athletic director’s honor roll. After deciding to return to Seward County C.C. Tanner will be among the top players for the Saints this season as well as the Jayhawk West Conference. Currently Tanner is being recruited by several NCAA D-I schools including,
Central Florida
,
Marshall
,
Denver
Univ.
and
Kent
State
.
McCue is
Seward
County
’s version of a human highlight film. The Lady Saints 5’9” spark plug from
Hutchinson
, finds a way to always be in the center of attention on the basketball court. McCue makes those sitting in the first three rows always keep an eye on her throughout the game with her frequent dives into the stands for loose balls.
Even as a freshman on a dominating sophomore line-up, McCue started in 24 games and played in all 38 games. McCue is a complete player, she can play all five positions and her statistics show how versatile she is, last season she was fifth on the team in scoring (257 points), third in rebounds (174 rebounds), second in assists (117 assists) and second in steals (54 steals). It is not uncommon for McCue to grab a defensive rebound on one possession, bring the ball down the court on the next and then hit a 15 foot jump shot after stealing an opponent’s in-bounds pass. Additionally, McCue was a member of the 2005 SCCC softball team that won the Jayhawk West Conference and Region VI Tournament. McCue set a Seward County C.C. record with a .435 batting average (30-for-69) and was named NJCAA First Team All-Region VI as a utility player.
Tanner, McCue and all of the Saints and Lady Saints will be hosting the Saints Basketball Benefit Night this Saturday, October 29, at
6:00 p.m.
at the Green House located on the campus of
Seward
County
Community College
. Admission is FREE and there will be contests where all contestants will receive FREE T-Shirts provided by the Saints Bookstore.
