SAINTS & LADY SAINTS BASKETBALL SCHEDULE OUTLOOK
SAINTS BASKETBALL PREVIEW: DAY 5
As November nears the
Seward
County
Community College
men’s and women’s basketball teams are putting the final touches on preparation for the opening tip-off for the 2005-2006 season. The Saints open their season next Thursday, Nov. 3, at home against Sterling College J.V. in their first game of the Pepsi Classic. The Lady Saints will open their 05-06 campaign the following night on Friday, Nov. 4, hosting
Jefferson
College
in the Pepsi Classic.
The Lady Saints start their season against
Jefferson
College
who was ranked as high as No. 13 in the NJCAA last season and finished with a 28-4 overall record. SCCC will be on the road Nov. 11, taking on Northeastern J.C. (
Colo.
) who was 20-13 last season and a perennial national contender.
SCCC will have possibly their biggest non-conference match-up on Nov. 25, at
Moberly
,
Missouri
, against No. 2 Moberly Area C.C. Last season Moberly Area finished 30-6 overall and in seventh place at the NJCAA National Tournament. Moberly returns two NJCAA All-Americans from last seasons team.
The Lady Saints will take their annual Christmas vacation trip to
Phoenix
,
Arizona
. On Dec. 28, the Lady Saints will play Scottsdale C.C. and Dec. 29,
Seward
County
will take on Mesa C.C.
SCCC Lady Saints will open Jayhawk West competition at home on Jan. 4, against Dodge City C.C. at
6:00 p.m.
Last season
Seward
County
won the Jayhawk West with
Dodge City
finishing in second place two games behind the Lady Saints. On Jan. 15, the Lady Saints will travel to No. 13 Colby C.C. who was picked pre-season by the coaches to win the Jayhawk West Conference.
The Lady Saints will have their first rematch of last season Region VI Tournament Championship game on Feb. 1, hosting No. 8 Barton County C.C. in the Green House. SCCC will travel to Barton on the last regular season conference game on Mar. 4.
The No. 25 Seward County Saints men’s basketball team will travel to
Salina
,
Kansas
, on Nov. 11, to take on the defending NJCAA D-II National Champions and pre-season No. 1 ranked Brown Mackie at
7:30 p.m.
In the annual Jayhawk Shootout (Dec. 2-3) the Saints will face Allen County C.C. and Fort Scott C.C.

and

combined were 21-40 last season.
The Saints open their Jayhawk West Conference schedule on Jan. 4, at home against Dodge City C.C. (13-17 in 2004-2005). On Jan. 11, the Saints will welcome Pratt to the Green House. Last season Pratt pulled a cinderella story going from third place in the regular season to winning the Region VI Tournament.
The Saints will have to wait until Jan. 21, for a home game against Garden City C.C. Last season the Saints finished just two games behind the Broncbusters for first place in the Jayhawk West Conference. Garden City has been ranked pre-season No. 1 in the conference coaches poll while the Saints received a No. 2 voting.
