SAINTS IMPROVE TO 5-0 WITH TWO WINS IN SALINA
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team took their perfect record on the road and is coming home with two more victories. The Saints (5-0, 0-0) defeated the defeated Brown Mackie (defending NJCAA D-II National Champions) 87-79, Friday night and then knocked off the AAU Kansas Cagerz 90-81, on Saturday.

Last season, Brown Mackie handed the Saints a 12 point loss (85-73) in the Green House, but this season would not repeat history. The Saints jumped out to an early 14-3 lead over Brown Mackie. The momentum of the first half would change as Saints power forward, Keith Spencer, was sent to the bench with four first half fouls. Brown Mackie took advantage of Spencer’s vacancy to lead at half time 43-41.

The Saints took control of the game in the second half as reserve forward, Carlin Whitten, and starting center, Adam Tanner, went to work collecting a combined 25 points and 15 rebounds. Spencer was available in the second half, although he played only 20 minutes total scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Saints freshman duo from Topeka Highland Park High School, Theron Wilson and Hank Harris both contributed big for the Saints with Wilson leading all scorers with 20 points (7-for-12 field goals) and Harris scoring 14 points (8-for-11 free throws) in 25 minutes of action.

Saints point guard, Jerrell Green, played a team-high 34 minutes and was the Saints spark plug once again with 13 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds.

On Saturday, the Saints were supposed to play Kansas Wesleyan’s J.V., but with a scheduling change on Friday night, the Saints ended up playing the Kansas Cagerz (AAU team). Seward County was down nine points at half-time (47-38) but came alive in the second half scoring 52 points with five players scoring in double-digits.
