Anytime a college basketball team can start the season with five consecutive wins, and defeating their five opponents on average of 27 points per game, there should be a good feeling in the locker room. The No. 25 Seward County Community College men’s basketball team has steam rolled to a 5-0 start behind a team full of depth and athleticism.
Saints Head Coach, Dave Brown, has enjoyed looking to his bench of eight-players this season and watching them respond with an average of 38.4 points per game. The Saints starting-five players haven’t performed bad either as Brandon Cornwell (7.2 ppg.), Adam Tanner (17.4 ppg.), Jerrell Green (8.2 ppg.), Keith Spencer (10.5 ppg.) and Theron Wilson (12.8) together are averaging 54 points per night.
The Saints exploded out of the gates in their opening weekend defeating NJCAA D-I schools Labette (110-61) and Lamar (75-57) and roughing up NAIA-school, Sterling J.V. (100-51). The Saints went on the road last weekend and survived against, defending D-II National Champions, Brown Mackie (87-79) and the Kansas Cagers-AAU (90-81).
Seward
County
has been tough under the basket this season grabbing an average of 50.8 rebounds per game and out rebounding their opponents by an average of 13.4 rebounds.
The Saints have also protected the basketball on offense (10.2 turnovers per game) while playing pressure defense, forcing their opponents to commit an average of 20.6 turnovers per game.
The Saints will tip-off the Wendy’s Classic tomorrow night at
8:00 p.m.
against Trinidad State J.C., in the Green House. FREE all-day ticket passes to the Wendy’s Classic can be picked up locally at the following locations: Wendy’s Restaurant, Sunflower Bank, Stewart Insurance Agency, James Pinkerton Family Dentistry and Dr. Perlita M. Dutton Family Dentistry.
All of the Saints games this weekend will be broadcasted on KSCB by sports anchor, Brock Kappelmann. Games can be heard on the Internet at www.kscb.net and clicking on KSCB Listen Live, or locally on the radio at KSCB 1270 AM.
