SAINTS MOVE UP TO NO. 9 IN NJCAA TOP 20 POLL
The latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) top 20 poll was released yesterday and the
Seward
County
Community College
men’s basketball team received a No. 9 national ranking in the second regular season poll this year. Last week the Saints made the move from No. 25 (pre-season poll) to No. 15.
The Saints remain unbeaten at 10-0 overall and still have four non-conference games remaining, before January when the rest of the Saints games will be against Jayhawk West Conference opponents.
The Saints success this season can be attributed to many aspects of their overall play. The Saints currently lead the 19 school Region VI in offensive scoring (92.0 ppg.), scoring margin (+ 24.2 ppg.), offensive rebounds (19.1 rpg.), total rebounds (47.6 rpg.) and steals (13.7 spg.).
Seward
County
has been able to win their first 10 games this season with a team-first attitude that has shown up in every game this season.
The Saints four remaining non-conference games in December are against
Allen
County
(Dec. 2), Fort Scott C.C. (Dec. 3), Newman University J.V. (Dec. 9) and
Frank
Phillips
College
(Dec. 10).
Seward
County
will face
Allen
County
and
Fort
Scott
in the Jayhawk Shootout this weekend in
Coffeyville
before returning home for the Pizza Hut Classic.
Other Region VI teams joining the Saints in the top 20 poll were,
Independence
Community College
(9-0) at No. 17, while
Coffeyville
Community College
(7-2) and
Garden
City
Community College
(10-0) were in the other schools receiving votes category.
