June 8, 2007 TANNER RINDELS DRAFTED IN 36TH ROUND BY DETROIT TIGERS Tanner Rindels Seward County Community College sophomore Tanner Rindels was selected on day two of the 2007 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers in the 36th Round (1,104 overall pick). The defending American League champions selected Rindels as a center fielder. Rindels was the seventh outfielder taken by Detroit in the draft. Rindels has also signed a NCAA letter of intent at Texas Tech University for the 2007-08 year. The Seward County baseball program has now had 75 MLB Draft selections or free agent signings in the programs history. Seward County head coach Galen McSpadden has now coached 74 MLB Draft selections or free agents signings in his 26 year head coaching career at SCCC. The Saints baseball program has now produced 72 MLB selections since 1993. Rindels led the Saints in nine offensive categories at the plate this season. He batted .391 with 18 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 58 RBI. Rindels went on a tear hitting .526 (30-for-57) with 12 multi-hit games, seven home runs and 30 RBI during the final 16 games of the season. He was a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection, First Team All-Region 6 pick and Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American. Rindels was also impressive at first base where he was awarded the NJCAA Region 6 Gold Glove Award. In addition, he was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week on April 25.
