SECOND HALF COMEBACK LIFTS SAINTS OVER T-BIRDS
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team used a second-half comeback to defeat Cloud County Community College 65-61, on Saturday night at the Green House in Liberal.
Cloud
County
led at halftime 33-28, and built a second-half lead as big as nine points before the Saints pulled ahead with 1:30 remaining in the game.
Seward
County
used clutch free-throw shooting to stay in the game, and pulled ahead on a Theron Wilson dunk to improve their overall record to 12-7 and 3-3 in the Jayhawk West.
Cloud
County
drops their third consecutive game and falls to 14-6 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Saturday night is the first time this season the Saints have won after trailing going into halftime (1-5 when trailing at halftime).
The Saints and T-Birds were even throughout the first-half, with Seward and Cloud exchanging seven lead changes, and each team posting a five point lead.

shot 42 percent. In addition,
Cloud
County
big-man Cassin Diggs was sidelined for most of the first-half as he picked up two quick fouls in the game. Diggs played only three minutes in the first-half.

began the second-half by increasing their lead to nine-points, after a three-point bucket by Rudy Meo with 17:02 remaining. The Saints however, wouldn’t let Cloud County get too far ahead going on a 9-0 run to tie the game, 42-42, with 13:25 remaining.
Diggs picked up his fourth foul early in the second period, but stayed in the game until he fouled out with 2:19 remaining. The 6-foot-10-inch Diggs scored 12 points in 14 minutes of action. The Saints held Diggs scoreless until the 10:37 mark in the second-half. Once Diggs fouled out of the game,
Seward
County
made their comeback.
Trailing by six points (61-55) with 3:43 left to play, Theron Wilson and Ervin Williams scored three points each to tie the score, 61-61. With 1:36 remaining,
Cloud
County
’s Michael Allen fired up a three-pointer that was rebounded by Nick Burns, who passed to
Wilson
down the sideline who gave the Saints their first lead since the first-half with a slam dunk. Following a missed three-point shot by
Cloud
County
, Burns was fouled and iced the game with two free-throws.
The Saints were led by Theron Wilson, who scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Wilson
paced the Saints attack with a 9-for-10 shooting performance from the free-throw line. As a team,
Seward
County
shot 73 percent from the charity stripe, including 15-of-20 in the second-half. Burns chipped in 13 points and Michael Tyree added 12 points for the Saints.
Cloud
County
was led by Girod Adams (13 points), Diggs (12 points) and Rudy Meo (seven points). The T-Birds played all 13 players, with 10 players scoring.
Seward
County
will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 29, traveling to
Pratt
Community College
. The Saints (12-7, 3-3) will take on the fourth-place Beavers (16-4, 3-3) for a 4 p.m. Jayhawk West Conference tip-off at the Beaver Dome in
