SAINTS FALL SHORT ON THE ROAD AT PRATT C.C.
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team dropped their third consecutive road game in the Jayhawk West Conference on Sunday at
Pratt
Community College
in the Beaver Dome. The Saints fell to the Beavers 88-84, after allowing Pratt to shoot 56 percent (20-for-36) from the field in the first-half.
Seward
County
played well in the second period out-scoring the Beavers 46-40, despite trailing by as many as 18 points.
Seward
County
stayed in the game shooting a season-high 90 percent from the free-throw line (35-for-39). The Beavers and Saints were balanced in scoring with each team having six players score in double-figure. Seward drops to 12-8 overall and 3-4 in Jayhawk West Conference competition. The win moves Pratt ahead of the Saints in the conference standings improving to 17-4 overall and 4-3 in the Jayhawk West Conference.
Seward
County
struggled to contain the Beavers in the first-half, with Pratt taking a 50-38 halftime lead. Pratt made 20 field goals in the opening frame, including 8-of-16 from three-point range. The Saints had a tremendous effort at the free-throw line shooting 17-for-18 (94 percent) from the line in the first-half.
The Saints were led in the second-half by Michael Tyree, who scored 12 of his 21 points. Tyree was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line, grabbed two rebounds and collected two steals. Tyree now has 124 career 3-pointers, tying him for fourth all-time on the career three-point field goals list with James Sutton (1991-1993).
Seward
County
had a strong second-half effort from guard Hank Harris, who scored all of his 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. Sophomore forward Theron Wilson scored 14 points (10-for-14 free-throws) and posted a game-high 13 rebounds.
Wilson
posted his third straight double-double, and now has 12 this season.
Pratt was led in scoring by Robert Moores (19 points), Bill Amis (14 points), Kevin Goffney (14 points and nine rebounds), Jairocey Simpson (12 points and eight rebounds), Bryce Simon (11 points) and Rochard McAfee (10 points).
Other Saints in double-figure scoring were Nick Burns (13 points), Bryson Hampton (12 points) and Ervin Williams (12 points).

will travel to
Colby
Community College
on Wednesday, Jan. 31, taking on the ninth-place Colby Trojans (5-16, 1-6 Jayhawk West) for an 8 p.m. Jayhawk West Conference tip-off. SCCC will battle the Trojans at the Colby Community Building in Colby, Kan.
