SAINTS WIN SEASON-OPENER OVER
STERLING

The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team won their season-opening game on Thursday night at the Green House against Sterling College J.V. The Saints cruised to a 101-64 victory, in a mismatch that the Saints controlled from the opening tip.

had scoring from all 12 players who were in uniform, with each player recording over eight minutes of playing time.

and Sterling College J.V. are the teams competing at the Pepsi Classic that will continue on Friday and Saturday at the Green House.

out-played the Warriors in every aspect of the game Thursday night. SCCC shot .500 from the field (21-for-42) and out-rebounded

56-to-34. The Saints collected 13 steals and distributed the basketball with 31 team assists.
The Saints increased their led to 16-2 with four minutes off the game clock, after Nick Burns hit a three-point field goal with an assists from
Hank Harris
.
Seward
County
led by as many as 32 points with 2:30 remaining in the first period.
In the second-half, the Saints increased their lead to their widest margin of the game when they led 87-41, with seven minutes remaining.

The Saints were led in scoring by sophomores Michael Tyree and Theron Wilson who each scored 19 points. Tyree, the Saints leading three-point shooter in 2005-2006, started off his sophomore campaign with an impressive shooting night. Tyree shot 7-for-13 from the floor and paced the Saints with a team-high 5-of-11 from three-point range.
Wilson
shot 7-of-16 from the field with several dunks that showcased his high-flying skills with the basketball.
Wilson
also led the Saints with five steals and chipped in seven rebounds.
Seward
County
received a strong performance from freshman, Darko Cohadarevic, who scored nine points and led the Saints with 10 rebounds and seven assists. Freshman point guard, Nick Burns, also scored in double-figures with 12 points with six assists and two steals. Freshman post player Ervin Williams tallied eight points and eight rebounds in his debut with the Saints.
In the other Pepsi Classic game on Thursday night,

defeated
North
Lake
College
67-61.
Odessa
made a comeback in the second-half to defeat the defending NJCAA D-III National Champion Blazers.
Odessa
was led by Deluis Ramirez (15 points) and Dewayne Hall (10 points and six rebounds).
North
Lake
was led by Tim Nelson, who scored a game-high 24 points.
The Saints will continue play in the Pepsi Classic on Friday evening against
North
Lake
College
at 8:00 p.m. at the Green House. Free tickets will remain available throughout the week at the north and south Pizza Hut’s, First National Bank and Applebee’s.
