November 10, 2006 THERON WILSON TAKES SAINTS PAST NORTHERN OKLAHOMA Theron Wilson Michael Tyree Seward County Community College sophomore Theron Wilson has been nothing short of phenomenal for the men’s basketball team this season. Friday night Wilson led the Saints in a non-conference victory at the Green House over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, 92-76, scoring 31 points with 17 rebounds to guide the Saints to 3-1 overall start this season. Seward County shot 52 per cent from the floor in the second half as the Saints were too much for the Jets at the Green House. The game started out in a back-and-forth battle with each team sharing the lead throughout the first-half. Seward County took care of the basketball in the first period committing only two turnovers, and was 11-of-14 from the free-throw line heading into half-time with a 49-38 lead. The story of the game and for the Saints, the story of the season thus far is the 6-foot-5-inch forward, Theron Wilson. For the third consecutive game, Wilson has scored 20 points heading into the locker room at half-time. Wilson again proved why he will constantly be mentioned among the top-five players in junior college basketball among the Region VI this season. Wilson shot 10-of-18 from the floor, 2-of-3 from three-point range and was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Not only was Wilson deadly shooting the 15-foot jump shot, he was also in the paint grabbing a career-high 17 total rebounds, with eight coming on the offensive glass and nine boards defensively. To finish out his M.V.P. caliber night, Wilson recorded six assists, four steals and three blocks while not committing a turnover in 38 minutes of action. This season, Wilson is averaging 25.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.5 assists per game. Darko Cohadarevic Not to be forgotten for the Saints was Michael Tyree, who scored 17 points with three long range three-point buckets. Freshman Darko Cohadarevic chipped in a career-best 19 points, including five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. The Saints were tough inside as they out-rebounded Northern Oklahoma-Enid 41-37, and the Saints posted nine blocked shots. The difference in the game was in the turnover column. NOC-Enid committed 21 turnovers while the Saints gave the ball away only 12 times. NOC-Enid was led offensively by York Sims (19 points), Matt Monroe (13 points) and Robert Johnson and Ty’Shaun Pace who each chipped in 10 points a piece. Seward County will be off until next weekends Wendy’s Classic in Liberal. The Saints will host two non-conference games at the Green House against Trinidad State College on Friday, Nov. 17 and on Saturday, Nov. 18 against Clarendon College .
