TYREE BREAKS THREE-POINT RECORD IN SAINTS VICTORY

Michael Tyree
Seward County Community College sophomore, Michael Tyree, broke the men’s basketball all-time record for three-point field goals in a single game in the Saints 114-83 victory, over Clarendon College on Saturday night at the Green House. The Saints cruised in their 31 point blowout over the Bulldogs, in the second day of competition at the SCCC Wendy’s Classic. Seward County led from the beginning of the game with their largest lead coming in the second half with 10:08 remaining in the game (88-48). Seward County improves to 5-1 overall this season.

Tyree broke the all-time single-game record for three-point field goals which was previously set at seven by four former SCCC players. Tyree scored 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from three-point range with two steals and two assists. The 5-foot-11-inch long range specialists from Somerset , New Jersey , just about tied the all-time record in the first-half hitting six three-point field goals on 6-of-7 shooting from three-point land.

The four Saints who previously shared the single-game three-point record with seven in a game were Keoni Watson (2003-2004), Donell Allick (2002-2003, twice), Rashon Mickens (1995-1996) and James Sutton (1992-1993). Tyree will make a push this season to become the all-time single-season and career three-point leader. This season, Tyree has made 25 three-point field goals (4.17 per game), and for his SCCC career, Tyree improves his total to 78. The all-time single-season record is 97 by Rashon Mickens (1996-1997) and the career record is 159, by Carol Walton (1993-1995).

Theron Wilson
Ervin Williams
Impressively for Seward County , Tyree wasn’t even the Saints leading scorer. The top scorer for the game was SCCC sophomore, Theron Wilson. The 6-foot-5-inch Wilson continues his torrid season scoring a game-high 28 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the floor, and hitting 16-of-19 from the free-throw line. Wilson ’s 16 free-throws place him second all-time in Saints history for free-throws in a single-game. Wilson collected his third straight double-double this season by recording a game-high 15 rebounds. Wilson also led the Saints in blocked shots with four, and posted three assists and three steals in 30 minutes of action. This season, Wilson is averaging 25.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. In addition, Wilson has made 50 of the Saints 88 free-throws this season.

The SCCC record for free-throws in a single-game is held by Greg White, who made 17 free-throws in a game during the 1971-1972 season.

The Saints received scoring from all 12 players in uniform for the second consecutive game. Ervin Williams scored a career-high 12 points and posted his first career double-double with 10 rebounds. Sophomore, Martrelle Patterson, also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Seward County will take to the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Newman University for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
