SEWARD USES BIG FIRST HALF TO DEFEAT COWLEY COLLEGE
The Seward County Community College men’s basketball team defeated Cowley College 97-87, in the opening night of the Pratt Thanksgiving Classic at the Beaver Dome, in Pratt , Kan. The Saints used a phenomenal first-half shooting performance to get by the Tigers in a non-conference match-up of perennial top teams in the NJCAA Region VI. Seward County was led by double-figure scoring from five players in their neutral court victory on Friday night. Seward County improves to 7-1 overall this season.

The Saints grabbed a 48-38 halftime lead behind an impressive 7-of-12 shooting from behind the three-point line in the opening 20 minutes of play. As a team, the Saints shot 16-of-30 (53 percent) from the floor in the first half of play. Seward County also out-rebounded Cowley College 50-to-37.

Seward County was led by their standout sophomore forward, Theron Wilson, who scored a game-high 28 points (9-for-20 field goals) with a game-high 16 rebounds and five assists, three blocks and two steals. Wilson and fellow Topeka Highland Park graduate, Hank Harris, paced the Saints at the free-throw line combining to shoot 17-of-21. Harris equaled his season-high in scoring and assists with 12 points and eight assists.

The Saints outside attack was led by sophomore, Michael Tyree, who recorded four three-point field goals en route to his 17 points. Tyree led all players Friday night with four steals and collected five rebounds. Seward County also received strong play from Nick Burns (12 points and eight assists) and Darko Cohadarevic (14 points, four three-point buckets and eight rebounds).

The Tigers were led by six players in double-figure scoring including high-point men Matt Muncy (16 points), Joe Harvey (15 points) and Nikola Grbulcle (15 points).

Seward County continues play at the Pratt Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday against Sterling College J.V. at 6 p.m. The Saints defeated Sterling J.V. earlier this season at the Pepsi Classic in Liberal, 101-64.
