AUSTIN TERHUNE SELECTED NJCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Three days after leading Seward County Community College to its 12th Jayhawk West Conference baseball championship, Austin Terhune has been named the RINGOR NJCAA Pitcher of the Week. Terhune, a freshman from Perryton, Texas, pitched a one-hit complete-game shutout in the Saints’ 9-0 victory over Pratt Community College in their final conference game of the season. Terhune also recorded a save in Seward’s 7-4 mid-week victory over non-conference foe Clarendon College. The regular season conference crown is the No. 10 nationally-ranked Saints’ seventh during the past eight seasons.
Terhune, a 6-0 left-hander, made a one-inning appearance last Wednesday against Clarendon, where he allowed two base hits and posted one strikeout in his first career save.

He then dominated the Beavers tossing the seven-inning gem while issuing one walk and collecting a season-high 11 strikeouts.
This season, Terhune is second on the team with a 2.91 earned run average and three complete games. He is 4-2 in 13 appearances while throwing in 55.2 innings. Terhune is also third on the team with 45 strikeouts.
Terhune becomes the eighth Seward County player to be named either NJCAA Player or Pitcher of the Week.
Besides Terhune and current sophomore pitcher Christian Kowalchuk, there have been six former Saints who have been tabbed NJCAA Player or Pitcher of the Week who have continued their baseball careers at the following NCAA Division I institutions: Oklahoma State University (Toby Davis), Texas Tech University (Tanner Rindels), Stephen F. Austin University (Kai Kirby), Oral Roberts University (Michael Jarman), Alcorn State University (Shawn Taylor) and the University of Nebraska (Jared Cranston). In addition, Kowalchuk has signed a National Letter of Intent to play next season at the University of Arkansas in the Southeastern Conference.
