FORMER SAINT SCOTT HOUIN SIGNS WITH MILWAUKEE BREWERS

Former Seward County Community College baseball player Scott Houin has signed a professional baseball contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Houin, who played for the Saints in 2004-2005, played 46 games this summer with the Aiken Foxhounds of the South Coast Independence league, where he batted a league-leading .359 with eight home runs, 40 RBI, 20 stolen bases and was named the South Coast League Player of the Month (July). Houin played his final collegiate season this past spring at Mount Olive College, where he was named a NCAA D-II Honorable Mention All-American batting .322 with 11 home runs and 70 RBI.

Houin will travel on Sunday to Phoenix , Ariz. , to join the Arizona Brewers in the Rookie league for the remainder of the 2007 season.

Houin finished his career at Seward County ranked in three all-time record books which includes owning the record for most career triples (13). He also ranks fourth in single-season triples (7) and eighth in career base hits (143). Houin was the starting right fielder for the Saints in 2004 when they finished in fifth-place at the NJCAA World Series. In addition, Houin was selected in the 44th round (1,300 overall pick) of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

In two seasons with the Saints, Houin batted .358 (143-for-400) with 28 doubles, eight home runs, 90 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

The Saints baseball program has now had 73 Major League Baseball draft selections or free agents signing since 1993. Houin joins four other former Saints who are currently playing for a major league baseball organization including Jared Cranston (San Francisco Giants, Class A Short-Season), Jason Van Kooten (Colorado Rockies, Class A Advanced), Danny Vais (Minnesota Twins, Class A) and Cory Patton (Toronto Blue Jays, Class A Advanced).
