Seward County bounced back from its double-overtime loss at Barton County with a 17-point victory at the Green House over Butler on Saturday night. The Saints’ victory over Butler featured two-high powered offenses that combined shot 60 percent from the floor (56-of-94) and had only 43 total rebounds. SCCC had seven players record a steal while forcing 29 Butler turnovers. The Saints are looking for a crucial victory over Cloud County, who they are currently tied with for second-place in the Jayhawk West. The T-Birds are 6-1 at home this season in conference play, suffering their only league loss to the Saints earlier this year. Saints’ first-year head coach Bryan Zollinger has led the Saints to 21 victories, marking the most wins in a single-season during his 11-year college head coaching career.

The Saints ended a five-year losing streak in Concordia on Jan. 20 with a 75-64 victory over Cloud County. Since 2000-2001, Seward County owns a narrow 8-7 lead in the overall series, including a 5-2 advantage at the Green House in Liberal. The T-Birds hold a 5-3 record against the Saints at Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia over the last eight meetings.

Cloud County has been one of the top teams in the Jayhawk West this season, and they are 6-1 since their loss to the Saints a month ago. The T-Birds are coming off an 84-58 blowout victory over Colby C.C. last Saturday night in Concordia. Cloud has several scoring threats on offensive including freshman leading scorer Jemal Farmer (16.8 ppg., 31 3-pointers), sophomore Rudy Meo (13.8 ppg., 5.1 rpg.) and sophomore Kendall Russell (12.3 ppg., 7.3 rpg.). In the first meeting this season, Seward County contained Russell holding the 6-foot-6 forward scoreless in 17 minutes of action.
