Seward County advanced to the NJCAA Region VI Tournament Semifinals with a 63-60 victory over Garden City Community College on Sunday evening. The victory was the fourth for the Saints over Garden City this season. It has been six seasons since the Saints last made an appearance in the Region VI Tournament semifinals. In 2002, Seward County finished its season as tournament runner-up with a loss to Coffeyville C.C. The Saints have now won 13 of their last 14 games overall. With three 3-point field goals against Cloud County on Monday, the Saints will break the program’s all-time single-season record for team 3-point field goals. In addition, the Saints are now 6-1 this season when playing on a neutral court.

The Saints swept the two-game series over Cloud County this season. Seward left Arley Bryant Gymnasium with an 11-point victory (75-64), and then knocked off Cloud County at home, 66-60. Since 2000-2001, Seward County leads the overall series, 9-7. Seward leads 6-2 at the Green House, and Cloud County leads 5-3 in Concordia. The T-Birds have won seven of the last 11 games overall in this series.

Cloud County has won six of its last eight games overall, and they are coming off a thrilling 70-68 overtime victory over tournament No. 3 seed Independence C.C. Rudy Meo is the leader for the T-Birds, and he did exactly that on Sunday night producing a game-high 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from long range. Cloud County is no stranger in the Region VI Semifinals, as they are making their third straight appearance. Cloud County head coach Kevin Muff (10th season) is the longest tenured head coach in the Jayhawk West and is 184-130 overall. Besides the T-Birds previous victory against Indy, Cloud County has also posted impressive victories against Barton County C.C. and Hutchinson C.C. In addition, Cloud County is 3-3 on a neutral court this season.
