women’s tennis players posted perfect records and the Lady Saints finished with a 9-3 record last Friday at the Bethany College Tournament in
Lindsborg
,
Kan.
Tournament competition was ended Friday due to rain on Saturday. Sophomore Erica Herrera and freshmen Valerie Stevens and Alyssa Larson each went 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
Seward
County
played against five four-year programs and one junior college. The Lady Saints improve their fall season record to 22-12 overall.
Sophomore Erica Herrera had no trouble improving to 5-1 this fall with victories against
Central
Christian
College
(6-0, 6-2) and
William
Jewell
College
(6-0, 6-1). Lady Saints’ freshman singles player Valerie Stevens also jumped to 5-1 this season with victories against
Kansas
Wesleyan
University
(8-0) and
Barton
County
Community College
(6-0, 6-0).
Freshman Alyssa Larson, sister of former Saints tennis player Darryl Larson, went unbeaten on Friday with victories over
Central
Christian
College
(8-2) and
Bethel
College
(6-2, 6-1).
Stevens and Larson played together in a doubles match where they defeated
William
Jewell
College
8-6. SCCC sophomore Sanela Dejanovic went 1-1 and freshman Fabiola Wisnesky recorded a 1-1 record in singles play. In addition, Dejanovic and Herrera were defeated in the only other doubles match for
Seward
County
.
This weekend the Lady Saints will compete in the International Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship at
Overland Park
,
Kan.
Competition will begin on Friday, Sept. 21 and will continue into Sunday, Sept. 23.
