LADY SAINTS EARN WINNING RECORD AT BARTON TOURNEY

The Seward County Community College women’s tennis team competed at the Barton County Community College Tournament last weekend in Great Bend , Kan. The Lady Saints used a pair of wins each from freshmen Valerie Stevens and Alyssa Larson and from sophomore Erica Herrera while tallying a 10-7 overall team record. Seward County also collected two doubles victories from Larson and Stevens. It is the fourth straight tournament this fall where Seward County has posted at least a .500 record and they improve their overall record to 38-29.

Stevens, a freshman from Midland , Texas , continued her strong season with a pair of two set victories against Newman University (6-0, 6-0) and Barton County (6-4, 6-0), while dropping her third match in three sets against Barton County (6-4, 5-7, 7-10). Stevens improves her record to a team-best 8-3 this season.

Herrera, a sophomore from Lubbock , Texas , cruised in her opening two matches against Newman University (6-0, 6-2) and Bethany College (6-0, 6-3). After posting her eighth singles win of the season, she dropped her final match to Bethany in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 8-10). Herrera is now 8-4 this fall.

Larson dropped just four games in her opening two victories with commanding wins against Hutchinson C.C. (6-1, 6-1) and Barton County (6-0, 6-2). Larson fell in her final match against Bethany 2-6, 0-6.

Larson and Stevens teamed up in doubles for a 2-1 record with match wins against Newman (8-5) and picking up a default victory against Barton County . They lost their final match 4-8 against Bethany College .

The Lady Saints will finish their fall schedule with back-to-back home matches starting on Thursday, Oct. 11 hosting Hutchinson Community College at 1 p.m. Seward County is also scheduled to conclude their fall season on Saturday, Oct. 13 hosting the Barton County Lady Cougars at 10 a.m.
