volleyball team defeated No. 10 Northeastern Colorado Junior College 30-23, 28-30, 30-25, 30-20 on Saturday afternoon at the Northeastern Colorado Tournament in
Sterling
,
Colo.
The SCCC victory marks the first defeat over a NJCAA Division I nationally ranked opponent since Nov. 14 2004 (No. 11 Barton County). Seward County went 3-1 overall at the Northeastern Colorado Tournament with victories over N.E. Colorado, Casper College, McCook Community College and a loss against No. 1 Western Nebraska Community College.

improves to 11-4 overall and remains 3-0 in the Jayhawk West Conference and 2-0 in the NJCAA D-I Region VI.

has now won six of their last seven matches and nine of their last 11 overall.
The Lady Saints competition was highlighted with a victory over No. 10 Northeastern Colorado on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Dan Yang broke the
Seward
County
record for most kills in a single match with 36 kills. The previous record was held by Luana Cavalcanti, when she posted 33 kills in a match against Garden City C.C. (11/13/04). Yang just missed a double-double with nine digs and she also chipped in two blocks.

Other leaders for SCCC against N.E. Colorado were Jelena Simic (17 kills, 19 digs, six blocks, five aces), Alex Droogsma (30 assists, 15 digs, seven kills, six blocks, one ace), Katy Troutman (19 digs) and Jenna Ginest (six blocks).
Also on Saturday, the Lady Saints defeated
Casper
College
29-31, 30-21, 27-30, 30-21, 15-5, in their first five-game match of the season. Troutman helped pace the offense and defense with a team-high five aces and 18 digs. Simic collected a double-double with 24 kills and 14 digs, while Yang also collected a team-best 24 kills, along with 10 digs, six blocks and three aces. Droogsma also recorded a double-double with 34 assists, 11 digs and four blocks. Ginest led all SCCC players with a career-high eight blocks.
In tournament play on Friday,
Seward
County
faced No. 1 Western Nebraska in their first match. The Lady Saints held their own with the national-powerhouse taking a 7-1 lead in the first game. WNC proved to be too much with a 30-25, 30-21, 30-20 victory over SCCC.
Against Western Nebraska,

was led by Yang (13 kills, four blocks, two aces), Droogsma (15 assists, four digs) and Simic (nine kills).

picked up their first victory of the tournament on Friday evening with a 30-18, 30-22, 30-17 victory over
McCook
Community College
. Simic recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, along with two aces. Chelsea Myers paced the offense with 21 assists and also chipped in three kills, a dig and a block. Freshman Mallori Proffitt posted seven kills and three blocks and Heather Zerr posted two service aces.
The Lady Saints will return to Jayhawk West Conference play on Monday, Sept. 17 at
Dodge City
Community College
(2-7, 0-3) for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
