Seward
County
Community College
volleyball team won their fourth straight match on Monday evening with a road victory at
Dodge City
Community College
30-16, 30-23, 28-30, 30-14. The Lady Saints remain tied for first-place in the Jayhawk West Conference with a perfect 4-0 mark and improve to 12-4 overall.
Seward
County
used Monday evening as an opportunity to play their entire roster, resting standout freshmen Dan Yang and Jelena Simic until the fourth game of the match. Ninth-place
Dodge City
falls to 2-10 overall and to 0-4 in Jayhawk West competition.
The Lady Saints won the first game 30-16 and followed with a 30-23 game-two victory.
Dodge City
rallied to extend the match to a fourth game with a 30-28 victory in game-three. SCCC jumped out to a 10-1 advantage in the fourth game and improved their lead to 14-2. The Lady Saints capped off the match victory as Yang and Simic each tallied four kills apiece in the fourth game.
Sophomore setter Alex Droogsma recorded 23 assists, 10 digs, six kills, four blocks and two aces to lead SCCC. Freshman middle hitter Jenna Ginest led all players with a career-high 14 kills and chipped in one block and one service ace. Freshman middle Mallori Proffitt collected 13 kills and six blocks, while Katy Troutman led the team with 15 digs and three aces.
Seward will travel this weekend to the Wyo-Braska Shootout, which is played in
Torrington
,
Wyo.
and
Scottsbluff
,
Neb.
They will open competition on Thursday, Sept. 20 with matches against
Eastern
Wyoming
College
(12 p.m.) and Laramie County C.C. (4 p.m.). Friday the Lady Saints will entertain four opponents with matches against
Casper
College
(9 a.m.),
Northwestern
Wyoming
College
(2 p.m.),
Miles
Community College
(4 p.m.) and No. 1 Western Nebraska Community College (8 p.m.). The Wyo-Braska Shootout concludes on Saturday with a match against
Sheridan
Community College
at 1 p.m.
