KATY TROUTMAN NAMED NJCAA LIBERO OF THE WEEK

The National Junior College Athletic Association announced yesterday that
Seward
County
Community College
sophomore volleyball player Katy Troutman was named the NJCAA National Libero of the Week. Troutman, a 5-foot-4-inch libero from
Broken Arrow
,
Okla.
, was named the nations top defensive player after averaging 3.4 digs per game last week. Troutman’s impressive week included breaking the SCCC all-time record for digs in a career, a record that stood for the past eight years. Troutman broke the all-time single-season record for digs this past season as a freshman (777). Troutman is the second player this season to earned National Player of the Week honors, after freshman Dan Yang received the honor on Sept. 12.
Troutman helped pace
Seward
County
to a 7-1 record last week. She recorded five matches with double-figures in digs including, a season-high 23 digs against
Casper
College
in a four game match. Also last week, Troutman led
Seward
County
with 17 service aces. She posted five aces against
Sheridan
College
, and three aces each against Laramie County C.C.,
Casper
College
and Dodge City C.C.
The sophomore libero is currently ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA in total digs (312). Troutman becomes the fifth player in SCCC volleyball history to receive National Player of the Week honors following, Dan Yang (2007), Janete Ferreira (2005), Kelli Kirkwood (2005) and Luana Cavalcanti (2004).
