to be named a National Player of the Week this season

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced on Wednesday that

sophomore Alex Droogsma was named the NJCAA Setter of the Week. Droogsma, a 5-foot-9-inch sophomore from Denver City, Texas, led the Lady Saints to a perfect 6-0 week with a conference win and five wins at the Midland Tournament while winning the tournament title. Droogsma also became the SCCC all-time career leader in assists last week with 2,409. She is the third player from
Seward
County
this season to be named a NJCAA Player of the Week, joining Dan Yang (Player of the Week, Sept. 12) and Katy Troutman (Libero of the Week, Sept. 19).
Droogsma recorded 149 assists and 64 digs last week. She had four double/doubles performances against New Mexico Military Institute (25 assists/12 digs),
Midland
College
(36 assists/10 digs),
Western
Texas
College
(21 assists/15 digs) and in the championship match against
Midland
(33 assists/14 digs). Droogsma also collected 22 blocks with at least two blocks in every match last week.
Currently this season, Droogsma has played in all 103 games (30 matches) and has recorded a team-high 676 assists, with 198 digs, 97 kills, 65 blocks and 24 service aces. Her overall assists total ranks her 22nd in the nation.
