The Seward County Saints run to a Region VI Championship and a berth into the 2009 NJCAA World Series came to an end Wednesday night as they lost for the second time in consecutive nights to the Cowley Tigers. Seward was the winners bracket champions and had to be beaten by the Tigers twice and after holding leads in both games, couldn’t finish the job and finish the 2009 season as Region VI Runners-Up. The Saints finish the season 37-22 and finished the tournament with a 3-2 record. May 6, 2009 SAINTS ADAVANCE TO REGION VI ELITE 8 WITH WINS AT ALLEN COUNTY
After a somewhat forgettable regular season, the Seward County Saints baseball team seems poised for a run at the Region VI Championship after going on the road to knock off 3rd seeded Allen County in Iola Monday. After a quick 1-2-3 inning for the Saints in the top half of the 1st inning, Allen jumped right on the fellas in green in the bottom half of the 1st as two straight singles to open the game had them with runners on first and second with nobody out. After a pair of solid defensive plays by the Saints, the Red Devils had a pair still on with 2 outs and a threat was nearly averted. However, a two out single up the middle plated a run for Allen as the home team took a 1-0 lead after one. COMPLETE STORY...
