GALEN McSPADDEN INDUCTED INTO NJCAA BASEBALL HALL OF FAME
Seward County Community College head baseball coach Galen McSpadden joined junior college baseball immortality on Friday, May 23, as he was inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Hall of Fame at the annual JUCO World Series banquet at the Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction, Colo. McSpadden was joined in the 27th induction class by Don Brown (former head coach of Redlands C.C.) and Perry Keith (head coach of Connors State). The three coaching legends join 80 current members in the exclusive hall of fame membership. McSpadden is the first individual from Seward County Community College to be inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame. COMPLETE STORY...

TWO FORMER SAINTS DRAFTED ON DAY TWO OF MLB DRAFT
Two former Seward County Community College baseball players were selected on day two of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Amateur Draft. Chris Holguin and Michael Jarman, both pitchers that played for the Saints in 2006, were selected by the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays, respectively. The Blue Jays selected Holguin with the 429th overall selection in the 14th round, and Jarman was taken by the Rays with the 773rd overall pick in the 26th round. The Seward County baseball program has now had 78 MLB Draft selections or free agent signings in the program’s history. COMPLETE STORY...

TOMAS CRUZ & DAVID MASTERS NAMED NJCAA ALL-AMERICANS

Seward County Community College sophomores Tomas Cruz and David Masters have been named National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Baseball All-Americans. The NJCAA announced its All-American teams this week with five players from the Region VI receiving recognition. Cruz, a right-handed pitcher from Amarillo, was named Second Team All-American while Masters, a catcher from Odessa, Texas, was named honorable mention. A total of 36 players earned first, second or third team recognition while 18 players were selected honorable mention.

The Saints’ baseball program has now had 18 All-Americans, including 17 selections under head coach Galen McSpadden. The NJCAA Hall of Fame coaching legend has coached the most All-Americans in Region VI history. COMPLETE STORY & LIST OF NJCAA ALL-AMERICANS...

FOUR SAINTS SIGN WITH
SUCCESSFUL NCAA D-I PROGRAMS
The Seward County Community College baseball program has announced that four sophomores have signed official NCAA Division I letters of intent for the 2008-2009 year. Sophomores Tomas Cruz (Clemson University), Christian Kowalchuk (University of Arkansas), David Masters (Kansas State University) and Austin Roff (Lamar University) have all inked LOIs after leading the Saints to a 42-19 overall record and to a Jayhawk West Conference championship this past season. There have now been 53 Seward County baseball players that have signed with a NCAA D-I program since 2001. COMPLETE STORY...

RECEIVE JAYHAWK WEST HONORS
The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced its Jayhawk West and Jayhawk East All-Conference selections, and Seward County Community College was well represented with nine players and their head coach receiving recognition. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Tomas Cruz was named the Jayhawk West Most Valuable Player, and head coach Galen McSpadden was selected the Jayhawk West Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Saints to a 42-19 overall record and to the program’s seventh conference title in the last eight years. The National Junior College Athletic Association and American Baseball Coaches Association has named Seward County Community College ’s Galen McSpadden as the head coach of the NJCAA Baseball All-Star team that will compete against the Taiwan National team June 20-22, 2008, in a three-game series at USA Baseball Stadium in Millington , Tenn.
