ABBY BOLTON NAMED ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH
Abby Bolton
Seward County Community College has announced Abby Bolton as the new assistant softball coach. Bolton, a 2003 graduate of SCCC, re-joins her alma mater after one season as the assistant coach at Dodge City Community College. Seward County coach Andrea Gustafson welcomes Bolton back to the program where she coached Bolton during her first year as head coach in 2003. Bolton replaces Renee Metzker, who spent the past five years as the assistant coach in the Lady Saints’ program. Bolton is originally from Colorado Springs, and she completed her bachelor’s degree at Friends University (Wichita, Kan.).

Bolton helped lead the Dodge City program to 16 wins in 2008, which includes a third-place finish in the NJCAA D-II West Sub-Region regular season standings.

The Lady Conquistadors opened the post-season with a victory over Labette (14-3) before being eliminated with losses against Cowley and Coffeyville.

Bolton coached Ashley Podschun this past season who was selected a First Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association D-II All-American, Second Team NJCAA D-II All-American, First Team D-II All-Region VI and First Team Jayhawk West All-Conference as a utility player. Podschun, a sophomore from Anthony, Kan., set a Dodge City C.C. school-record and led the NJCAA batting .576 (80-for-139), and she collected 14 doubles and 52 RBIs.

Before starting her collegiate coaching career in 2007-2008, Bolton was an admissions coordinator at SCCC from 2006-2007.

Bolton remains in four Seward County softball all-time single-season records books, including third in doubles (20), tied for fifth in base hits (70), tied for seventh in runs scored (53) and tied for eighth in stolen bases (10).
